Library of Noble Numismatics Auction Catalogues (Sales 1 to 126)
Each catalogue has the prices realised included
These catalogues are an invaluable resource for any Australian numismatist.
Rarity, value and provenance are three critical factors that must be taken into account when assessing any numismatic item, and although the printed price guides that we all use (such as those published by Renniks and McDonald) are a great proxy for detailed market research, there is simply no substitute for ready access to transparent primary market data.
Market activity doesn't get any more direct or transparent than when items are sold via public auction, and although life will be easier for us all when this data is digitised, until then we need "analogue" printed catalogues are the sold repository of the most important data any numismatist can get their hands onto.
Australia has seen a good number of numismatic auction houses over the past 5 decades, yet if we were to add up the total value of all of the coins and notes sold via auction in Australia between the early 1970s and 2021, the lion's share of that total will undoubtedly have been sold by Noble Numismatics, formerly known as Spink Australia.
Based in Sydney, Noble Numismatics is chaired by Mr Jim Noble, one of Australia's foremost numismatists. Noble Numismatics have deep contacts within each numismatic community across Australia and have handled many of the largest numismatic collections that have been offered for sale over the past 50 years or so.
Any collector of valuable Australian coins, notes or medals will do well to have a library of Noble Numismatics catalogues at hand. Not only do these catalogues allow a potential buyer to view auction appearances over time to clearly determine just how rare a particular item is, they make it possible to assess relative rarity and value, and also to build provenance information over time.
This speaks nothing of the enjoyment that a collector can get simply from taking some quiet time to review a catalogue or a series of catalogues. There are many useful snippets of information in auction lot descriptions that don't make it into the specialised books written on each Australian numismatic area, so the collector that has a library of auction catalogues can be several steps ahead of those collectors that content themselves with a price guide alone.
Condition:
The previous owner of these catalogues looked after them well, so although they've been used for the better part of half a century, they remain in excellent condition. Importantly, the prices realised are included for each sale.
The Logistics of Delivery and Storage:
We've packed these auction catalogues into seven different banana boxes - the total weight comes to around 185 kilograms! Each banana box measures up as being 42 * 34 * 22 cm in size, they range in weight between 16 and 30 kilograms each.
The catalogues are being offered for sale on the basis that the buyer either collects them from our office or pays for the cost of freight to their address.
The exact cost of delivery will depend on the delivery address - the quotes we've received for delivery to addresses on the Eastern seaboard indicate that the cost will range between $150 and $200.
If you'd like a quote on the exact cost of delivery to you, please use the "Ask A Question" to get in touch and we'll get you some numbers to consider.
Keep in mind that once you sign for them, you'll need to find around 3 metres of space in your library!
Payment:
We're prepared to accept payment for this library via layby - 4 equal instalments over the space of 4 months.
Keep in mind that if you're already working in the numismatic industry, the cost of these catalogues may well be tax deductible. (For God's sake don't take our word for it though, check directly with the ATO or your accountant).
If you expect to be active in the Australian numismatic industry for any length of time, the cost of these catalogues will repay themselves many, many times over.
