Kings and Queens Silver Medal Collection Franklin Mint 21.23ozt ASW
Each of the 43 medallions in this set has the following technical characteristics:
Diameter: 32mm | Weight: 16.95g | Purity: 92.50% | ASW: 0.5040 ozt
This album contains 43 silver medals that cover each British monarch since 1042.
The Franklin Mint was a prodigious issuer of all kinds of collectables throughout the 1970s and 1980s, this set is prime among them.
Like the original sales spiel states, this binder contains 43 silver medallions, each one depicting the bust of the various kings and queens that have reigned over England since Edward the Confessor in 1042 AD.
The binder includes diagrams that show the relationship between each monarch in the various houses and is accompanied by a separate binder that has a card with biographical information on each monarch.
Each medallion weighs 16.95 grams, has been struck in sterling silver (ie 92.50% pure), and has been gold plated.
The total weight in pure silver is 674.18grams or 21.67 ozt.
The medallions have a proof finish, and admittedly do look fantastic when housed in the binder altogether.
This particular set has been stored well - each of the medallions remains in impeccable condition, and the binder and the biographical cards are intact also.
If you want to know just how much the Franklin Mint charged for this set when it was issued in 1977, the issue price was $32.50 per medal.
For a total of 43 medals, that comes to $1,397.50. Adjusting for inflation between 1977 and 2020, that comes to much more than $6,000 today.
This medal set is the perfect buy for someone that's looking to put some money into silver while getting something interesting at the same time.
