Postal notes such as this were an incredibly-important part of Australias 20th century monetary system.
A postal order or postal note is a type of money order usually intended for sending money through the mail.
It is purchased at a post office and is payable to the named recipient at another post office.
A fee for the service, known as poundage, is paid by the purchaser. Postal orders are not legal tender, but a type of promissory note, similar to a cheque.
Australian postal notes are popular with collectors - patriotic collectors will do their best to build "sets" of notes from a state; region; town or era of interest to them.
Special Note: We have a number of these postal notes - each has a different serial number, but is from the same date and state and is in the same condition as the postal note you see here. If you'd like to see the exact note you'll receive, use the ask a question button to let us know and we'll post revised images.
