Australia 5 Cent Coin Reverse Brockage Error PCGS MS66
Obverse: Brockage of Echinda and denomination
Reverse Echinda and denomination
Diameter: 23.60mm | Weight: 5.65g
This rare decimal error coin has been superbly-preserved.
Errors on production coins are always rare, this is particularly the case with Australia's decimal coins.
The high standards of quality control at Australia's mints means that errors very rarely leave the Mint's premises.,A brockage occurs when one planchet becomes stuck in the press after being struck - another planchet is then placed on top of it and the two coins are struck together.
Once the two planchets are separated, one side of the first coin will show the back of the second in reverse.
Brockages are particularly keenly sought when in top quality, as the condition shows that they were spotted soon after they entered circulation.
As the images here show, this particular five cent piece does not show any wear or friction at all across the high points of either side.
A similar example to this was sold through IAG's Sale 93 (March 2021) for a nett price of $3,660.
