many aspiring young designers.
Some years later, Max was recruited to begin work freelancing for the Reserve Bank of Australia.
In 1975 the Reserve Bank decided to develop a higher denomination for the Australian Currency series. Three designers were given the opportunity of developing concepts under the theme of Discovery. All of the proposed designs featured prominent figures in the exploration of Australia and also incorporated our native flora and fauna.

The project was to prepare concepts in accordance with a technical brief. The theme was to be Discovery, with particular focus being paid to the explorers of Colonial Australia and our iconic wildlife.
Robinson included a wide range of subjects in his concept notes, but was not successful with his tender. We can see on this concept note that he included a much wider range of explorers than we normally see depicted on Australia's coins and notes - Abel Tasman, Ferdinand Magellen and the little-known Alexander Dalrymple. (Do make sure you run a google search to see how he is related to the discovery of Australia.)
Although Robinson's proposed designs were not adopted for our $100 note, he was successful in the design process for the polymer $10 note, his designs have been seen on Australia's circulating polymer notes since 1993.
The concept note we offer clear provides a clear and exclusive insight into the design process for Australia's paper $100 note. We believe this particular version is unique in private hands.
