Australia 1994 Baby Uncirculated Mint Coin Set Year Of The Family (Wide Date)
A truly scarce "Baby" mint set including the scarce commemorative dollar coin marking the International Year of the Child.Australia has been producing mint year sets packaged with a "baby" theme since 1993. The coins in mint sets are just the same as those we see in circulation, but are in perfect condition! Baby mint sets are produced in far lower numbers than standard mint sets, so they are far harder to get. Couple this with the fact that those parents & grandparents that didn't get them when they first came out are willing to pay over the odds to get them, and these sets are great to put away.
The design on the reverse of the 50¢ coin honouring the International Year of the Family was the winner of a nation-wide competition among Australian primary school children, and wasn't particularly well received by the general public when it first came out. As the years have passed though, decimal variety collectors have found two different varieties - one with a wide date, and one with a narrow date.
This particular set includes a "wide date" 50¢.
The coins in this set are in perfect condition, as is the packaging. The fifty cent coin is the narrow date type, and (unfortunately!) the $2 coin is dated 1994.
