This is one of the very first Australian 100 dollar notes printed for 2019.
Philip Lowe was appointed as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia on September 18th, 2016.
Philip Gaetjens acted as Secretary to the Treasury between August 1st, 2018 and September 1st, 2019.
Dr. Steven Kennedy was appointed Secretary to the Treasury with effect from September 2nd, 2019.
The NGB $100 notes were launched and released into circulation on October 29th 2020, 13 months after Mr Gaetjens ended in his role as Secretary to the Treasury.
The above dates show that $100 notes with the Lowe / Gaetjens signature combination are dated a year before they were actually issued.
Information published by the RBA on the serial numbers used when producing Australia's banknotes allows us to calculate the mintage figure for most banknotes that are of interest to collectors. The serial number range used when printing the Lowe / Gaetjens $100 note shows a total of 188,115 notes printed with this prefix.
This is clearly a very scarce and unusual polymer note, one that will no doubt have appeal to collectors for many years to come.
