The Transformers are a series of small toys originally made in Japan during the 1980's, the selling point to kids was that the individual parts of the toy could be shifted about to change it from a vehicle to a robot action figure and back again.
US distribution rights for the the toy range were picked up by Hasbro, who came out with a comic and an animated TV series based on the characters, and kids the world over went bananas over the toys. The characters have since been used as the basis for a series of science-fiction films directed by the Hollywood director Michael Bay.
The movies haven't exactly received critical acclaim, they have been incredibly popular - two individual movies have taken more than a billion dollars at the box office (yes, that is billion with a "B"!), and the total series has taken more than $3.7 billion to date. It is ranked 11th on the list of the highest grossing movie series of all time.
The Perth Mint's series of three silver 1oz coins dating to 2011 were incredibly popular right around the world - the mintage was set at 5,000 coins, and each character sold out in short order.
Bumblebee has long been one of the most popular characters in the Transformer series, this coin remains in the original plastic case, with the certificate of authenticity.
