The mintmark one dollar series is hugely popular right around the country - these coins are affordable, scarce and really well presented, which is why they're put away by parents, grandparents and keen collectors as soon as they're released.
There are always new collectors coming into the market each year, when many of them decide to get the back issues, it means there's plenty of healthy competition for the few that come onto the market! Not only do most collectors want one of each design, they want one of each mintmark that was used.
The 2004 mintmark dollar commemorate the 150th anniversary of Australia's only civil uprising, at the Eureka Stockade in Ballarat. The events of Eureka and the public's response to those events were perhaps the most important early steps on the path to the robust, direct democracy Australia is today.
Each $1 mintmark coin bears the same design, except for a letter identifying the city for which it was struck: E (Eureka), B (Brisbane), M (Melbourne), S (Sydney) and C (Canberra).
Visitors to the Eureka Centre in Ballarat were able to place a special mint mark on pre-struck dollar coins, these are the scarcest of the 5 different types produced.
These coins remains in as-issued condition, and come with the original wallets they were issued in by the RAM.
