This set remains one of Australia's most keenly sought decimal issues.
Demand for memorabilia was in a boom period leading up to the and during the Centenary of Federation, coins sets were particularly popular as they were officially produced by the Australian government.
All in all there were ten different commemorative fifty cent coins; nine different commemorative twenty cent coins and one commemorative one dollar coin issued in the Centenary of Federation commemorative coin series, this was easily the biggest stimulus the Royal Australian Mint has given to Australian numismatics since the introduction of decimal currency.
This particular set included each of the coins issued for circulation in Australia in 2001 - all made in 99.99% pure gold.
It is the first set of Australian circulating currency ever struck in gold, and was very keenly sought at the time it was issued.
The $1 coin features the Centenary of Federation Logo, while the 50 Cent coin shows the Commonwealth Coat of Arms.
Each of the other coins in the set feature their standard reverse designs.
If rarity, beauty and a solid gold value wasn't enough, another reason this set is so highly regarded is because the seven-sided Federation Star on the reverse of the 20 Cent coin was actually hand-struck on each coin as a mintmark.
The Tasmanian Myrtle presentation case is an excellent work of craftsmanship in and of itself.
I have little doubt that this is one of the most important sets ever released by the RAM - it is historic, rare and superb to look at.
The 2017 Planetary set that contains the Mars $2 coin has a mintage of 10,000, many have sold for more than $7,000 in recent weeks.
This set contains 3.654 ounces of pure gold and has a mintage of just 650 - just wait to see what happens to the value of it when $2 coin collectors decide they need it to get the $2 coin so they can finish their set.
There are very few decimal products that I would suggest have characteristics that mark them as a potential investment, this set is prime among them.
The coins, case, outer shipper, and certificate are all included and remain in excellent condition.
