A hugely popular privy introducing one of Australia's rarest 20th-century pattern coins.
Although to most folks a lot of the Perth Mint silver kookaburras all look the same, discerning collectors know otherwise. One of the ways that these coins can be distinguished is by looking for a "privy mark".
A privy mark was originally a small mark or differentiation in the design of a coin for the purpose of identifying the mint, moneyer, or some other aspect of the coin's production or origin, for quality control purposes. The Perth Mint uses privy marks slightly differently - they are used to commemorate a particular event, theme or occasion.
This privy mark is an overlay that was issued to mark 80 years since the Kookaburra series of pattern coins was produced, it had a tiny mintage of just 4,000 coins, a ridiculous figure for such a popular theme.
This coin remains housed in the original presentation case, and is accompanied by its serial-numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
