Mintage - 1, 500
The world's very first polymer banknote & Australia's first commemorative note.
The introduction of polymer technology to Australia's banknotes in 1988 sent the numismatic world into a spin.
Not only did the new notes look and feel completely different from traditional paper notes, but they also survived in circulation for far longer. Governments around the world were quick to contact Australia's NPA to enquire about the new technology.
The notes weren't as warmly received by the Australian public, many notes were defaced by people looking to test the durability and anti-tampering qualities of the new notes. The first batch released into circulation was quickly cut short - a second release was only made once problems with the hologram were solved.
A different release of notes housed in special presentation folders for sale to the general public was made through banks - these notes featured "AA" serials, and could not be obtained from circulation.
This particular folder contains one of the original AA series $10 notes from 1988 and a specially overprinted $10 note from 1998.
The 1998 note has the standard blue serial numbers and is one of just 1,500 such folders released.
The notes remain strictly UNC, and come in the original folder they were issued in.
