1996 Australian Polymer Note Portfolio
Includes one of each polymer banknote issued by Australia, each note has serials starting with OO96
Mintage: 1,000
This exclusive portfolio celebrates the world's first series of circulating polymer notes.
When polymer technology was introduced to Australia's circulating currency between 1988 and 1996, worldwide demand for Australian notes skyrocketed. Note Printing Australia (NPA) introduced a range of collector products featuring the last of the old paper notes and the first of the new polymer notes, and these were hugely popular.
This particular portfolio was released in 1996, shortly after the last of Australia's banknotes was released in polymer format. The polymer $100 note was issued by the RBA on May 15th 1996, which completed the series.
The portfolio is presented in a premium quality album and includes a colour brochure that recounts the history of polymer banknote technology in Australia.
Each note has OO96 as the serial prefix, includes the same serial number and has been overprinted with the date each denomination was first issued.
The portfolio sold out shortly after it was released, and remains popular with collectors as a solid memento of the world's first complete set of circulating polymer notes.
The notes, certificate and folder are all included and remain in excellent condition.
