The Australian commemorative $200 gold coin series was introduced in September 1980, some eight months after the gold price peaked at around US$850 per ounce.
The series ran until 1994, mintage figures declined each and every year along the way.
The 1993 $200 coin features the Squirrel Glider, a marsupial native to Australia.
The flanges of skin it has between it's limbs allow it to soar up to 50 metres between trees as it searches for food.
The squirrel glider uses it's furry tail as a rudder while flying no less.
When you consider that a limited edition $200 coin can be bought for less than $100 above melt value, you can see these coins are excellent value for money.
Each coin contains 9.167g of solid 22ct gold, which is equivalent to 0.2947 ozt.
