This truly scarce paper $5 bundle is crisp and fresh.
The Fraser Higgins five-dollar notes were first released into circulation in December 1990, and were replaced by the Fraser Cole paper five-dollar notes in September 1991 - this makes them close to three decades old.
Bernie Fraser and Christopher Higgins were active signatories of Australia's banknotes for just 12 months, their tenure was brought tragically short when Higgins died of a massive heart attack following an athletic event in Canberra.
Most folks in the general public and even many collectors overlook the rarity of notes such as these due to the fact it seems like only yesterday they were in circulation. Try chasing some down in UNC condition though, and it's a different story altogether.
Although a lot of people hoarded the low denomination notes, very few had the wealth to be able to keep aside runs (let alone bundles) of the higher denomination notes in perfect condition.
This is the first bundle of this denomination in this signature combination we've handled in the past 5 years.
Each and every note in this lot is crisp and natural, the last few notes in the bundle have two a slight corner fold on the top right hand corner.
