This is the very first sheet of uncut notes issued in Australia.
The introduction of polymer technology to Australia's banknotes in 1988 sent the numismatic world into a spin.
Collectors throughout Australian and the world were quick to acquire all of the special collectible varieties that were issued, particularly the uncut sheets, blocks and pairs.
The full sheet of 24 uncut notes was the rarest of all of the collector issues released by NPA in 1988, and was in fact one of the hottest collectibles of the 1980's.
The smaller uncut blocks and strips that were released at the same time were just as popular.
One particular coin & banknote dealer had strong demand for them - Bob Roberts of Wynyard coins in Sydney.
Bob Roberts was at the forefront of the Australian numismatic market since the 1960's, and at the time of the Bicentennial was easily one of Australia's largest dealers.
Such was the demand for each of the uncut 1988 notes through Bob Roberts that for a time, Wynyard Coins quoted daily buy and sell figures on their shop window in Sydney's CBD.
The secondary market for these sheets rose strongly on the back of demand from buyers that missed out on the initial ballot, and went on from there. A quick survey of a few copies of the Coin Review Magazine from 1988 will show you just how strong the market for these uncut sheets were - at the peak of the market, they were trading for thousands of dollars.
The market for uncut sheets of banknotes these days isn't quite at that level, but if you consider how rare they are and the future potential they have, they have to be excellent value for money.
This particular sheet remains in strictly UNC condition, and is entirely devoid of any flicks, folds or bends.Selvedge is evident in each margin.
