Natural star notes are incredibly rare in trios such as this.
These notes are completely crisp and natural - there are several light vertical folds evident on both notes, as well as a tiny corner fold in the top left corner on 2 of the notes.
Although consecutive notes generally don't command a premium over the same number of individual notes, a consecutive pair or trio of star replacement notes really should bring more than the same number of singles.
The reason for this logic is that although star replacement notes were printed in consecutive runs, they were most often distributed throughout a bundle intermittently.
The ratio of star notes to regular notes for the Phillips Randall $2 was 779 to 1, which means this trio of notes could theoretically have been distributed across at least 3 bundles!
My review of the research into auction records by Mick Vort-Ronald shows that only one other trio of R83s has ever been seen.
They would make an excellent addition to the collection of any advanced star replacement note collector.
