Commonwealth of Australia Paper $10 Note Issued 1966 ~ 1975 Decent Condition
1966 $10 Note Star Note Coombs/Wilson R301s good Fine
Front: Mary Gilmour
Back: Henry Lawson
Period on Issue: February 14th 1966 ~ October 1967
This is an honest example of Australia's first $10 star note.
Dr. Herbert Cole (Nugget) Coombs was Governor of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia between January 1st, 1949 and January 13th, 1960, and was then the inaugural Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia from the date of its establishment on January 14th, 1960 until July 22nd, 1968.
Sir Roland Wilson was Secretary to the Treasury from April 1st, 1951 until October 27th, 1966.
$10 notes with this signature combination were issued over a much shorter period than that - for less than a year in fact, between February 1966 and October 1967.
The mintage of the regular $10 notes with these two signatures was 77,168,000, whereas the mintage of the Coombs Wilson $10 star replacement note is 336,000.
The ratio of star notes to regular notes for the Coombs Wilson $10 was 230 to 1, which makes it the most readily available $10 star replacement note for collectors to obtain.
