When decimal currency was first introduced to Australia in 1966, huge quantities of coins & paper notes were produced to ensure that activity in the Australian economy didn't skip a beat following the change to dollars and cents.
The standard Coombs Wilson $1 notes were on issue for just two years, between 1966 and 1968 - 130,210,000 of them were printed over that period of time. By comparison, just 535,000 Coombs / Wilson $1 star replacement notes were printed, which is a ratio of 243 standard notes to every star replacement note printed.
This particular note has completely original and crisp paper - both sides exhibit a full sheen, and the black intaglio ink is raised to boot.
It remains a superb example of one of Australia's very first decimal star replacement notes.
