1959 Proof Coin Set Perth and Melbourne Mints, 7 coins FDC

A complete set of Australian proof coinage struck during 1959.
At the time these coins were struck, production of Australia's circulating coinage was spread across both the Melbourne and Perth mints.
Australia's silver coins were struck by the Melbourne mint alone, while production of Australia's copper coins was shared by both mints.
Although both mints used exactly the same designs and alloy in their copper coinage, the finished products could not look more different.
The copper coins struck by the Melbourne mint nearly always exhibit a deep purple and rose patina, while the Perth copper coins can retain much (if not all) of their original red lustre if they have been carefully stored.
As the images here show, this particular set has been well kept since the coins were struck - the silver coins retain their full lustre and the surfaces are mark-free; the Melbourne copper coins exhibit an even patina that ranges from chocolate through to rose, while the Perth penny exhibits full original red lustre right across both sides, and remains spot-free.
