A superb note - crisp paper with plenty of snap.
Dr Herbert Cole (Nugget) Coombs was Governor of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia between January 1st 1949 and January 13th 1960 and was then the inaugural Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia from the date of its establishment on January 14th 1960 until July 22nd 1968.
George Watt was Secretary to the Treasury from 23 November 1948 until 31 March 1951.
£5 notes with this signature combination were issued over a fraction of that period - between August 22nd 1949 and October 1952.
The mintage of the £5 notes with these two signatures was 42,000,000.
The paper of this particular note is crisp and incredibly straight, confirming it remains in original condition.
The intaglio ink is raised also, which really is outstanding for a note of this age.
It remains a superb example of the second-largest denomination note to circulate throughout Australia during the Korean War.
