This is a solid example of Australia's most keenly-sought penny.
The 1930 penny is undoubtedly Australia's most keenly sought rare coin - most everyone in the general public has heard of it (even if only vaguely), it's been THE coin that all pre-decimal coin collectors have lusted after for decades.
Not only is it incredibly rare, it also has a functional beauty unmatched by any other Australian rare coin.
That rarity is increased even further when we exclude coins that have been heavily damaged or are corroded - nearly all of the coins that were in circulation for an extended period fall into that category.
Although this coin shows weakness in the upper scroll and the pelleted inner circle, research by Fred Lever has shown this characteristic is a function of the reverse die (S76) used to strike this particular variety.
The obverse shows a full band in the base of the King's crown, a good portion of the centre diamond is also evident.
The surfaces and rims are free of any significant contact marks, the patina varies from a deep tone within the devices to a lighter tone in the open fields.
We believe this example is one the next owner will enjoy for many years to come.
The 1930 penny is a solid tangible asset that has long had a widespread appeal among collectors and the general public. It has been a trusted store of value for many decades now.
Few other Australian assets have as much credibility with the general public as this important and historic Australian coin.
