1927 One Pound Riddle/Heathershaw R26 Uncirculated
Front: Denomination at centre and in each corner, national crest at left and George V at right.
Back: Captain Cook landing scene at centre, denomination at left and right.
Period on Issue: November 30th 1927 ~ January 1933.
Mintage: 31,661,900
Crisp and natural paper - great body.
The Riddle Heathershaw signature combination is the most affordable in the "Harrison" series of pre-decimal notes. It is invariably the "got-to" signature combination for collectors keen on building a type set of Australian pre-decimal notes in superior grade.
A lot of Australian paper currency was pressed and flattened in the heady days of the booming banknote market in the late 1990's and early 2000's - they were quite acceptable back then (many still are, without question!), however there's little doubt that new collectors entering the market today prefer crisp and original notes over any that may have been pressed.
This note remains in original condition - the body remains crisp and original - it remains in fantastic condition after such a long period of time.
This note has crisp and natural paper, and is equal to the best I’ve seen for the past 5 years at least.
An interesting note regarding the provenance of this note is that it was listed by the auctioneer as being in Extremely Fine condition, and that it had a pre-sale estimate to match.
Unfortunately for me, a few other experienced dealers and collectors saw the note also, and it ended up making a hammer price that reflects the incredible quality it is in. (Yes, I will let you know where it came from if you end up purchasing it, if you don't know already.)
