This is a premium example of the pennies struck at the Sydney Mint in 1924.
There are 2 different types of Australian penny dated 1924 - "Indian" and "London".
These two sub-categories are not split because of where they were made, but because of which mint produced the master dies from which the coins were made.
The interesting thing about the 1924 Indian penny is that they are all known to have been struck at the Sydney Mint - while the Melbourne Mint also struck pennies in 1924, they were all struck using master dies that had been prepared by the Royal Mint in London, and thus showed the final upstroke in "N" of "OMN" aligned between two outer rim beads.
The Sydney Mint only struck pennies intermittently throughout the 1920's, largely because the out-dated mint machinery that it had was simply not up to the task of striking the relatively large penny in the tough copper alloy.
The technical characteristics of the 1924 Indian pennies often reflects this - the obverse detail is often very weak, and can also exhibit an orange-peel appearance.
This particular example really is a superior representative of this interesting penny variety, and is a coin all parochial New South Welshmen should have in their collections!
