This is an attractive example of Australia's first Harrison ten shilling note.
The brown "Harrison" series ten-shilling banknotes issued into circulation in September 1923 were remarked on not only for the fact they looked quite different to the blue Treasury series notes they replaced, but also for the fact they featured the signature of Denison Miller - the Chairman of Directors of the Note Issue Department of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, and he had unfortunately passed away in June 1923, some six months earlier.
The intaglio printing plates for the new notes had been prepared prior to Miller's passing, and senior management chose to proceed with the designated release of the notes, rather than stall the release so the required change could be made.
Denison Miller's signature was eventually replaced by that of his successor, James Kell, from March 1926 onwards.
