1923 Halfpenny about Unc (PCGS AU58)
Obverse: Coronate bust of George V to right, legend around
Reverse: Denomination within legend, date below
This coin sits within the 10 finest-known examples of Australia's rarest halfpenny.
The 1923 half-penny is one of Australia’s rarest pre-decimal coins, produced in an era of economic growth and industrial turmoil.
It has been highly sought after by collectors for many years, and has a somewhat mysterious background - the real story behind its rarity remained untold for decades. Discerning collectors recognise that it is extremely difficult to find in superior quality.
This particular example exhibits minimal friction across the high points of the reverse and shows a truly minimal amount of rubbing on the King's cheek and eyebrow, as well as in small parts of the King's crown on the obverse.
Hints of lustre can be seen in the peripheral devices around the obverse.
It is clearly a premium example of Australia's rarest halfpenny.
