1865 Sydney Mint Type II Sovereign Unc (PCGS MS62)

This is a superb example of a truly rare date in the Sydney Mint sovereign series.
The Type II sovereigns of the Sydney Mint are a series of coins that managed to mix accessibility and challenge all at once.
Just 13 dates must be acquired to complete a date set, the real challenge comes when quality is a consideration.
1865 is perhaps the last truly rare date in this set - the others have been seen in reasonable quantities in mint state in previous years. That certainly isn't the case for the coins dated 1865 and earlier - it wouldn't be advisable to hold your breath waiting for them to become available!
This particular example is an unequivocal mint-state coin. The surfaces of the wreath and braid remain devoid of any wear, while the leaves in the wreath and the fine detail in the crown are clear and sharp.
This is an excellent opportunity for the sovereign collector looking to build a high-quality date set that captures both rarity and quality.
