This is the only uncut sheet of paper 10 dollar notes ever issued to collectors.
When polymer technology was introduced to Australia's circulating currency between 1988 and 1996, world-wide demand for Australian notes sky-rocketed. Note Printing Australia (NPA) introduced a range of collector products including a series of uncut sheets, half sheets, blocks and pairs in various configurations, in both paper and polymer.
The market for these uncut notes ran very hot in the early to mid 1990's, but by the late 1990's the market had petered out. Although collectors were quite keen to build a complete set of all of the uncut products that were issued, the pony-tailed marketing executives at NPA saw fit to change the configuration of uncut products pretty much every single year, slowly driving collectors mad and eventually killing the market.
Uncut sheets are arguably the most popular and exclusive products that NPA issued. They look fantastic, they're rare and are always in demand.
The uncut paper $10 note sheet was the 3rd uncut sheet that NPA released, it came out about 12 months after the polymer $10 note was introduced, and while the paper $10 notes were being withdrawn from circulation.
It's interesting to see that this sheet has the date 24/7/92 printed into the upper margin ofthe sheet, along with the initials "M.D.".
This particular uncut sheet remains in excellent condition.
The perspex frame was discarded by the previous owner, it has been stored in a cardboard mailing tube since then.
