A sizeable auction of world banknotes was held in London in the first part of December 2012, in it were several rare Australian notes, the prices of which should be of some interest to Australian banknote collectors. World Banknote Auction 12024 was held by Spink Numismatics in London on December 13th, 2012.

Part Two (of three parts) of The Bentley Collection of gold sovereigns was auctioned by Baldwin’s of London on September 27th. Baldwin’s quite correctly described it as being “The Ultimate Collection of BritishMilled Sovereigns”, given the post-auction publicity that surrounded the world record hammer price of £650,000 (just over A$1,000,000) for...

If you’ve had an interest in Australian gold coins for any period of time, you’ll be aware that a major collection of gold sovereigns hit the market in London earlier this year - Part One of The Bentley Collection.

Part Two (of three parts) of The Bentley Collection will be auctioned by Baldwin’s of London later this month - September 27th. Baldwin’s quite correctly describes it as...

International Auction Galleries held their 76 sale last weekend (Sunday September 2nd), and while I wasn't able to attend, the results show that it was a well-attended sale that had good results across the board.

While the retail market for coins and notes has been keen at lower levels in recent months, results at other auctions for higher-priced items hasn't been as keenly contested....
