Given the numismatic auction and show schedule for October, it looks like I’ll be accumulating a few frequent flyer points in the coming weeks - 3 auctions and a show are on in 3 separate states over a 3 week period!

While I expect I’ll be homesick by the end of it all, there is plenty of material on offer across them that I wouldn’t have it...

It’s now been a week since International Auction Galleries held their sale # 80, so it’s an opportune time to review the action as it went down.

If you reviewed the catalogue before the sale, you would have seen that the early part of the catalogue inclued a good range of interesting coins from far-flung parts of the world. These were from a...

Stewart Wright and I were on Tony Delroy's popular ABC radio program (Nightlife) last Friday night (September 12th).

If you haven't listened to it before, Nightlife is an AM radio program that's broadcast nationwide between 10pm and 2am, Monday to Friday.

While Tony Delroy openly admits to being a bit eccentric, he does have an excellent grasp of which angles the general public...

The first section of the IAG catalogue includes a range of affordable world, proclamation and pre-decimal coins, always good to set the atmosphere in the room. It moves onto an area of the market that everyone is keen to see some action in, Pre-Federation notes.

This is an area of the market that has taken a beating in recent years, what with...

The prices realised report for Noble Auction 106 shows that total turnover came to A$3.82 million - no small amount of money, and a result that in fact places it as the highest turnover for a Noble auction since their Auction 97, “way” back in July of 2011.

While I don’t think this single result is a cause for celebration, nor a reason to...

Next week sees Noble Numismatics hold their 106th numismatic auction, a sale that I believe is the biggest we’ve seen in Australia so far in 2014.

If catalogue weight is any guide to the size, scope and depth of a sale, this one is a whopper - I haven’t weighed it yet, however I reckon it is going to tip the scales at about 3 kilos.

The cover of the catalogue features an Indian...

While it isn’t entirely unprecedented for a truly rare gold coin or note to appear for sale outside the mainstream numismatic scene of auction houses and dealers, it is a talking point.

I recall a few auctions being held in “out of the way” places from my time working in...

Downies Australian Coin Auctions Sale 317 has now been and gone, and the market has another sale under it’s belt. The bidder sitting next to me at one of the sessions wryly remarked that the room was full due to the number of people keen to get out of the cold.

While the weather was certainly milder than Melbournians know...

While there wasn't a great deal of anticipation for the latest auction held by Status International in Sydney, it brought out all of the die hard coin and note geeks that religiously check every auction for that elusive hidden gem.

The Gold Coast is certainly an attractive location for a rare coin auction - its right on the beach, has beautiful sunny skies and plenty of nightlife to boot.

IAG have taken on new technology that sets them apart somewhat from most other Australian numismatic auctioneers, specifically with the extent to which they post images of their lots online, and the ease of online bidding.
