1988 $10 Note Bicentennial - 1st issue

Serial Number: AB 33 Last Prefix

Signatures: Johnston/Fraser

Reference #: R310aL

Quality: Uncirculated

One of the last of world’s first print run of polymer notes.

Production of Australia’s first polymer notes was split into 3 distinct print runs:

  1. Notes sold to collectors and the general public;
  2. The first series printed for circulation (AB First Series); and
  3. The second series printed for circulation (AB Second Series).

The collector market has long regarded notes from each of these distinct print runs quite differently, and will pay much more for certain notes than they will for others.

The only notes that were released to the general public on Australia Day in 1988 are those from the production run known to collectors as the “AB First Series” - the serials began with the letters AB, and had either 93, 94 or 96 as their 3rd and 4th digits.

This AB33 1st series note is one of the very last notes from that print run. Numismatic experts have determined that due to industrial action, only around 500,000 notes from the First Series print run ever entered circulation - only a tiny fraction of that number would have this serial prefix.

This particular note remains in impeccable condition - it is complete free of folds, bends, flicks or indentations.
