King Edward VII 1908 Half Sovereign Melbourne Mint

Obverse: Edward VII

Reverse: St George & Dragon

Strong reverse, lots of lustre all over.

The half sovereigns of Edward VII are a popular series for many collectors - there are just 12 coins to get for a complete set, nearly all of them are quite affordable in mint-state quality.

The mintage figures of the Melbourne coins in this series tend to be lower than those of the Sydney Mint, and are generally much more difficult to obtain as a result.

Back in the days before PCGS grading took hold, a really nice 1908-M half sovereign turned up perhaps once every year or two at auction.

This particular example has been struck reasonably well for the issue, and has lovely frosted lustre right across both sides.
